Availity Insights with Elaine Putman and John D’Ambrosio – Accelerating Enterprise Data Strategies

It has been an exciting year of growth and innovation for the health care information technology sector with Availity’s acquisition of Diameter Health. The two organizations are coming together as one by combining their strengths, expertise, and leading healthcare data and interoperability capabilities to drive meaningful change among stakeholders across the industry.

In our recent Availity Insights series, Elaine Putman, Senior Director of Client Engagement and Delivery at Availity, and John D’Ambrosio, Vice President of Client Services at Diameter Health, discuss the acquisition and give insight into how their teams are accelerating enterprise data strategies with connectivity, transformation, and application to help clients drive clinical, financial, and operational ROIs.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Interoperability and Patient Access Final Rule underscores the need for seamless data exchange in healthcare. Historically, the lack of sharing patient data between payers and providers has resulted in frustrations and costly inefficiencies as well as detracted from patient care and improving outcomes. Availity fusing its integrated clinical and claims data intelligence network with Diameter Health’s approach to Upcycling Data™, the process of aggregating data from multiple sources and transforming it into a clean and usable data asset, unites the once siloed processes of acquiring, transforming, and using health data into one cohesive well-oiled machine.

Connecting more than two million providers with health plans nationwide and processing over 13 billion transactions annually, Availity is the nation’s largest real-time health information network. Proactive payers looking to gain a competitive edge while complying with the CMS Interoperability and Patient Access Final Rule are turning to trusted vendors, like Availity and Diameter Health. Together, they have the experience and expertise needed to not only transform raw clinical data into a standard base like Fast Healthcare Interoperability® (FHIR) but perhaps most importantly, solve quality issues and content challenges around complex coding variations. This gives participating clients the ability to deploy Upcycled Data into enterprise applications and downstream workflows to support use cases like HEDIS® and quality, risk adjustment, prior authorization, utilization management, and value-based contracting.

The ability for participating clients to take raw clinical data and refine it into digestible concepts and data elements to use in workflows can also help automate administrative processes. In addition, longitudinal patient records built from Upcycled Data can avoid costly decision making based on fragmented data that exclude vital pieces of information. Upcycling is more than normalizing data to make coding consistent. It’s more than optimizing it for a single purpose. It’s ingesting a huge volume of data from everywhere patients receive care, reconciling disparate coding terminologies, synthesizing it into a person-centric view, and making it flexible to serve multiple purposes.
